Michael Silver Rates The Owners

Poorly, I should add. On his stupid list, Pat Bowlen ranks 10th. I could see ranking him so low if you had a legitimate reason, like his strange affinity for fur coats and Hawaiin shirts (not at the same time, thank God), but Silver doesn't use any of those reasons. Instead, he says:

Bowlen's teams do a lot of winning on the football field -- though, as Broncos
fans are all too aware, they've only managed one playoff victory since John
Elway retired after the '98 season. And Bowlen has strongly supported the coach
and de facto GM, Mike Shanahan, who guided the franchise to back-to-back Super
Bowl titles in Elway's final two years. But Bowlen, another big spender with
a good stadium situation and who is influential in league matters, recently bore
some responsibility for an embarrassing defeat in the courtroom. In May the New
York Supreme Court ruled that Comcast is free to relegate the NFL Network to a
premium all-sports tier, potentially keeping a large amount of fans from viewing
regular-season games. Bowlen, who chairs the NFL's broadcast committee, had sold
his fellow owners on heeding the advice of NFL Network boss Steve Bornstein, who
last fall advocated suing Comcast rather than trying to work out a settlement.
Oops.

aaaand... stop! Actually, you can pretty much stop right after the first sentence. "Bowlen's teams do a lot of winning on the football field."

The end! Isn't that the fucking point, stupid? Yes- yes it is. Yet you rank him behind the guy who owns the Texans. Here's a quote from his post about Bob McNair: "That said, he has established a highly valued franchise..." No, he didn't ESTABLISH a highly valued franchise. He purchased a franchise for a ridiculous sum of money. By paying that money, it's value was established. The value hasn't gone up since then. So basically, Michael Silver thinks Bob McNair is a good owner because he had a lot of money before buying a team. That makes sense, since number 5 on Silver's list is DANIEL FUCKING SNYDER.
Personally, I do not care one bit about that NFL Network crap going on. Mostly because I have DirecTV and already get the NFL Network. At any rate, I don't see how the NFL Network negotiations impact his value as an owner of the Broncos, only as a negotiator for the league, and eff the league- they make enough money already.
Granted, Denver voters gave Bowlen his new money making toy, and the profits from the naming rights, but at least Bowlen spends the money. We all know that Coloradans only care about recreation and roads to get to that recreation, and Bowlen provides for us.
My top 5 owners, in whatever order, would go: Dan Rooney, Pittsburgh; Robert Kraft, New England; Pat Bowlen, Denver; Jerry Jones, Dallas; Jerry Richardson, Carolina; and the Packers fans who own Green Bay.
*special thanks to me, or crapping out now 4 posts in the last 2 days, despite nothing actually happening. I really need a hobby.
