So I just got out of a screening of Live Free or Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, Timothy Olyphant, um, that awesome guy from the Apple commercials, and some chick I'd really like to sex. The movie was great. Lots of great stunts, the usual snappy Die Hard dialogue, and I doubt you'll really notice the PG-13 rating. It gets a little cheese when the plane appears, but you can see that yourself.
Len Wiseman was the director. He's famous for making awful Underworld movies and somehow talking his way into the pants of Kate Beckinsdale. I was worried about him, but the first action sequence put everything to rest, with some really fantastic stunt work and one beautiful shot. Also, there are a couple of those guys who run and bounce around everything like a damn Gummi Bear, like at the beginning of Casino Royale. In the end, a bunch of dudes get killed, a bunch of shit gets blown up, and I left the movie wanting to fight people. Isn't that the point of an action movie?
When Silver Suerfer came out, I thought it would open at $60 million and then drop to $20 million on the second weekend. It opened at $57 million and then dropped to $20,009,476. Thast said, I'm not really good at judging these 5 day opening "weekends," so I'm going with $75 million. Next up, Transformers next Tuesday.

Good to hear. It's not too over-the-top is it?

The scene with the plane is, but I kind of thought that it would be, based on the trailers. Otherwise, it's solid asskickery. The first action sequence is my favorite of the year. Best shot in an action movie in a long long time.
