I know I'm supposed to care about Mike Shanahan's 3 year contract extension, and I want to care. I even tried to care. But I really don't care. I was kind of under the impression that he was like a college professor and hit tenure, and he was going to be here forever or until he made inflammatory remarks about 9/11.
I think Shanahan's a really good coach, and he needs to be, because the guy responsible for personnel decisions sucks. Who's that again? Oh yeah- Shanahan. His draft record in particular is downright astonishing. 2004 was only 4 years ago, and already there's no one left on the team from that draft. You could randomly pick names out of a hat and be more successful than that. I know that Ted Sundquist is the de facto GM, but does anyone really think he does anything other than make coffeee in the morning and take Bowlen's fur coats to the cleaners?
I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of won/loss stats I could look up, but that sounds way too much like effort, and I' m not really "about" effort. I'm like the Dan Wilkinson of internet bloggers. And no, I'm never going to forgive him for not coming to Denver, because it makes it highly unlikely I'll get to use my Big Daddy picture again, and I really like that picture.
At the end of the day, Denver keeps a coach who's been good and is obviously better than any alternative, and Shanahan gets a bunch more money and that snazzy jacket he's wearing in the picture above. Offseason Fever- Catch It While You Can!
